ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari Friday said that massive support and assistance of the world community would be required to undertake the important 2nd phase of rehabilitation and reconstruction of the internally displaced persons (IDPs). He said this during a meeting with UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Sir John Holmes who called on him here at the Presidency. The President while appreciating the humanitarian work being done by the UN agencies said that IDPs would start returning their homes from Monday in areas that had already been cleared and secured by the security forces. He said that the areas so far cleared had been identified and the IDPs were being informed through media. He commended the UN to garner support and assistance for the displaced people. The UN Under-Secretary General lauded the President for the cooperation being extended by the government of Pakistan in UN relief operations and assured him of UNs full support in the long-term development of the affected areas. Secretary General to the President Salman Faruqui, Representative UNICEF Martin Mogwanja and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
