Deaths of Wapda’s workers due to lack of safety gadgets

Members of line staff at Tunsa Sub Division died as a result accident on duty while two lineman met fatal accident in Muridke Division and Kahuta Sun Division and six lineman were electrocuted in LESCO within short span of time and more than 200 members of the line staff become victim of accidents and some become permanently disabled during the performance of their duties. It is result of over burdening of the existing line staff with rising heavy work since no recruitment had been made for last many years despite increase of the number of consumers and construction of new lines and grid stations as well as absence of Standard Safety Gadgets for staff and lack of adequate training facilities comparing with the size of work force and ignoring the observance safety Regulations at work place.
These views were expressed in a large meeting by trade union leader Khurshid Ahmed at the Safety Day that was observed in all major cities.
At this occasion Rao Zameer-ud-Din, Chief Executive Officer, Lahore Electric Supply Company, Muhammad Akbar Khan, General Manager, (C&M) speaking on the occasion, urged to the workers that they should refuse to work in case they were not provided with the Safety Gadget and safe working conditions.

He also appealed to them that they should not work in any case without observing safety regulations.

HEC approves establishment of ORIC at UMT

LAHORE (PR): Higher Education Commission (HEC) has accredited the establishment of Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization at University of Management and Technology, Lahore. A notification issued by HEC says that by setting up ORIC, UMT now is eligible to receive funds from HEC for its research activities such as training workshops, holding seminars and conferences in collaboration with HEC, marketing of research for commercialization, networking events for business and industry for establishments of linkages.
Meanwhile, Director General Abid H K Shirwani has said that UMT is the only university in private sector that has system of ORIC at its premises.

Happilac Paints Cricket

 LAHORE (PR): Happilac Media League, the Night Cricket tournament, will be organised on 11 – 13th July, 2014 at Model Town Whites Ground. The teams of all popular media groups are participating in this tournament. The 12 playing teams have been divided into 4 groups. The timings of the match are 9pm till Sehri.
Amad Sikka, Director Marketing, said, “the purpose of this tournament is to give media personnels an opportunity to participate in a healthy activity and to interact among each other.”

 He wished luck to all the playing teams and thanked them for participating.

KP government launches
Tameer-e-School programme
PESHAWAR (PR): The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa launched Tameer-e-School Programme on (date)to rebuild, facilitate and construct new schools in an effort to make education accessible to all belonging to KP. The Government seeks support from affluent Pakistanis for improvement of government schools across the province. It is a great initiative by the Elementary Education Foundation, Government of KP.
A website has been set up for this cause, where donors can contribute to fulfill any requirement of a school of their choice.The Tameer-e-School Programme will begin with 122 schools in five districts ofKhyber Pakhtunkhwa. Contributors can support the schools through online donations, cheques or bank deposits. They can contribute either to a general fund or support any of the following areas: toilets, water, additional classrooms, boundary walls, furniture and computer labs.
