KARACHI - PPP’s central stalwart and leader of Opposition in National Assembly, Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presently lacks political team to deal with the political issues emerging in the country.
He advised the premier to follow the PPP leadership which completed its five-year term of government despite conspiracies from all quarters.
Addressing the press conference at PPP’s media cell here on Thursday, he said the Prime Minister did not consult with the politicians before launching the Zarb-e-Azab operation.
Shah advised the PM to hold meetings with the politicians on national issues. To a question about PPP’s soft stance for government, he said: “My party is not supporting or saving Nawaz Sharif instead we are supporting the democratic system because we want continuation of the democratic process for which our leaders and workers sacrificed their lives.”
The Opposition leader said other institutions like Pakistan Army and judiciary were stable except the parliament so his party would not allow anyone to derail the democratic system.
He also admitted that political parties in line with the undemocratic forces remained part of the conspiracies against the democratic process in past. He declared that the PPP would not let the derailment of democracy in the country.
When asked about Imran Khan’s Long March and Tahirul Qadri’s revolution struggle in the streets, he said agitation on roads was not a solution to problems instead they should be discussed and resolved in the parliament.
“The security situation after North Waziristan operation does not permit massive rallies in the Capital as announced by PTI chief Imran Khan on August 14.” He questioned that who would be responsible if any terror incident occur during the PTI rally.
He said Imran spent one year in the parliament and accepted the democratic system but now he was trying to destabilise the system. He advised the cricketer-turned-politician to sit and discuss the issues in the parliament.
Shah said tsunami means destruction and PPP would not allow anyone to damage the system.
He also criticised the revolution terminology of Tahirul Qadri, saying he wants to bring his revolution through derailment of democracy. He said innocent men and women were killed in the Model Town tragedy and that incident was the incompetence of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Responding to the issue of implementation of Article 62-63, Shah said no one had a right to declare someone pious or sinful and interfere into the private life of any person.
PPP’s Senator and in-charge of party’s media cell, Senator Saeed Ghani, Senator Karim Khowaja and MNA Dr Shahida Rehmani were also present in the press conference.
