PESHAWAR - At least two policemen were killed and another got injured when three armed miscreants attacked a police van near Waheedabad check post in the jurisdiction of Phando police station in the early hours of Thursday.

Sources said the Phando police officials were on routine patrolling when three armed persons attacked them, leaving two personnel dead and one injured. On receiving information, the police reached the site, but the attackers succeeded in escaping from the scene.

Talking to media persons, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani said one of the three attackers belonged to district Dir. The funeral prayers of the killed cops were offered in Peshawar police lines. The IG police, the chief city police officer, former health minister Shaukat Yousafzai and others attended the funeral prayers.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, while strongly condemning the attack on the police van in the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station, announced payment of compensation to the families of the martyred and injured police jawans. He expressed satisfaction that a terrorist was also killed by the brave police jawans, which would take the inquiry to right direction and prove helpful in reaching the network of terrorists.

Pervez Khattak, while expressing sorrow over the tragic incident, announced compensation of Rs 3 million for each of the two police martyrs and directed the authorities to immediately make payment of the amount.

 “The legal heirs of the martyred police jawans will also draw salaries till the age of their retirement while their children will get free education. In addition, one member of each martyred cop’s family will be given job with immediate effect,” the CM said. He also announced the payment of compensation to the injured police jawan and his free treatment.

The chief minister said this amount was no substitute for human life, but was a little effort on behalf of the government to share the grief of the affected people.

Paying tributes to the police personnel for sacrificing their lives in the line of duty, he said the whole police force of the province was fighting terrorism and had foiled several subversive attempts of terrorism while playing a vital role in bringing improvement in the law and order situation. He expressed the hope that police would play its role along with the people and the government in steering the province out of the prevailing difficult situation. He said the terrorists’ objective behind attack on the police was to demoralise them, but the government and the nation would not allow them to do so.

Pervez Khattak directed launch of an effective crackdown against the miscreants involved in the incident. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the martyred jawans and early recovery of the injured. He expressed the heartiest sympathy with the bereaved families.



The house of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Misbahuddine was damaged partially when unknown persons hurled a hand grenade on it in the jurisdiction of Bhanamari Police Station on Thursday.

The Bhanamari police said that no loss of life was reported in the explosion but the front gate of Misbahudin’s house in Peshawar’s Amin Colony was damaged partially. Large number of police rushed to the site and collected evidences.

Moreover, rescue teams were also dispatched to the site of the blast that took place near Technical College. Misbahudin had contested election on a PPP ticket from NA-4 in last general election held in May 2013.
