Bahawalnagar District Coordinator Officer (DCO) Syed Iqbal Haidar conducted a raid at Ramazan Bazaar Minchinabad and suspended three officials who were absent from their duties.

The DCO paid a surprising visit to the bazaar to monitor prices and the quality of essential items. During the visit, Assistant Commissioner, TMO and all the officials of revenue department including the Tehsildars, revenue officers, Patwaries, the officials of TMA, veterinary and agricultural departments and markets committees deputed on special duties in Sasta Ramazan bazaars were absent from their duties.

Even the police personnel deputed to ensure security at the bazaar were found disappeared from their places of duty. Naveed Chishti, an employee of Market Committee was the only official who was on his duty during the visit, source told The Nation.

The source also said that the inspection was carried out after receiving a number of complaints from consumers about high prices and low quality products at the bazaar and complaints against the negligent officials. During his visit, the DCO expressed grave concern and showed displeasure not only over the absence of officials but also over the inferior quality of edible items and state of uncleanliness in the bazaar. He immediately suspended three officials including a secretary of union council while show-cause notices were served to others.

He said that the administration have also been given directions to ensure uninterrupted supply of articles of daily use in Ramazan bazaars for the benefit of people and laxity on the part of officials deputed in Ramazan bazaars will not be tolerated at any cost.
