Islamabad - Beaconhouse hosted an event to present the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) with Rs35 million to set up computer laboratories in 21 government schools in Punjab and AJ&K. The event took place at Beaconhouse Margalla Campus, Islamabad, on July 9, 2015.

Beaconhouse was represented by Beaconhouse Northern Region Executive Director Nassir Kasuri while Ahmed Kamaal, Member Disaster Risk Reduction was invited to preside over the ceremony.

The MDRR Member lauded Beaconhouse’s efforts and commended it on playing the part of a positive role model for other organisations to emulate. The funds will be used to set up computer labs with equipment, including over 300 new branded computers, furniture and 21 uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units as well as an additional Rs 2.1 million for the schools.

In a series of meetings held earlier this year, the NDMA had stated that its most pressing educational requirement is to establish and equip schools with technology infrastructure.

Schools from four districts that were worst hit by the September 2014 floods in Punjab and AJ&K will benefit from this endeavour. The work will be executed by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab and the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in AJ&K. It will be directed by the NDMA and overseen by Beaconhouse.

The funds were raised through the generosity of parents and staff members of the Beaconhouse community and matched by Beaconhouse.

The bulk of this combined amount was donated to the NDMA to support its rehabilitation efforts. Beaconhouse is the only private school system that consistently works to support reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts as part of its social responsibility.

In the past it supported the community and contributed generously after the earthquake in 2005, the floods in 2010 and 2014 and has extended support to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan. Beaconhouse has donated almost Rs80 million over the last two years to help those in need as well as for educational and social causes.
