LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab to solve the problems of Pakistanis living abroad on priority basis and play an active role in this regard.

The chief minister asked the Commission not to spare any effort for providing facilities to the Pakistanis living abroad and addressing their complaints without delay. He said the commission should have come up to the expectations of overseas Pakistanis.

Shahbaz Sharif further directed that concerned institutions should fully cooperate with the commission for resolving the problems of overseas Pakistanis and the commission should fully benefit from modern technology in the performance of its responsibilities.

Also, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting here on Friday which reviewed the progress on various ongoing development projects in Lahore and other cities of the province.

The chief minister told the meeting that the PML-N government has provided all out resources for the timely and quality completion of the projects. He said that special attention has been paid to the improvement of infrastructure in Lahore and other big cities.

He said that the present government has introduced the culture of transparency, standard and speedy completion of development projects and third party audit has also been made compulsory in this regard which has promoted transparency in the implementation of the projects. He said that after Lahore and Rawalpindi/Islamabad metro bus project has also been started in Multan and this project will be completed speedily while a high standard of construction will be maintained.

He said that early completion of development projects is necessary for facilitating the people. Therefore, he said, a number of projects of infrastructure development have been completed speedily in Lahore. He said that Jail Road signal-free project is of vital importance. He said that this project will improve the flow of traffic and precious time will be saved.

He said that under signal free project, underpasses overhead bridges and U-turns will also be made so as to provide maximum facilities to the people and save their time. The Chief Minister directed concerned authorities to complete this project speedily and alternative routes be made for the benefit of the people and their due publicity should be ensured.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government decided to undertake grading of restaurants with regard to their standard. The chief minister gave approval to this decision under which restaurants will be graded on the basis of standard of food, security, cleanliness, quality of water and other necessary arrangements and stickers of their grade will be displayed outside the restaurants.

The restaurants having highest standard with regard to food and facilities will be given grade-A and B. The managements of the restaurants will be bound to prominently display the sticker of their grade at the main gate of the restaurant which will help the people in the selection of the restaurant on the basis of quality of food and facilities. Senior Member Special Monitoring Unit Chief Minister’s Office Salman Sufi gave a briefing regarding grading of restaurants.

Separately, Shahbaz Sharif lauded the performance of Cabinet Committee on Law & order and law enforcement agencies regarding foolproof security arrangements on the occasion of Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA).

He said that Cabinet Committee on Law & Order made excellent security arrangements in the province and police authorities and law enforcement agencies performed their duties efficiently due to which Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA) passed peacefully.

He further directed that foolproof security arrangements should also be made on Juma prayers and additional police force should be deputed for security at mosques and imambarghs.
