Rawalpindi - A numbers of gangs of armed robbers and dacoits are depriving people of cash, mobile phones, motorcycles, gold and other valuables round-the-clock in various areas of Civil Line while police are doing nothing to control the rise in street crimes.

Instead to lodge cases against the hardcore criminals to provide justice to street crime victims, the officials of Police Station Civil Line including Station House Officer (SHO) Sub Inspector (SI) Awais Akram has adopted a unique strategy of showing low crime rate by pushing the matters under carpet or humiliating the crime victims to such an extent that he or she avoid visiting police station to get registered their cases.

A gang of four armed robbers riding on Honda 125 motorcycles intercepted a food stall vendor Tariq at 2:30am on Friday at Street Number 14 in Tahli Mohri and snatched Rs1,05,000 on gunpoint from him and fled. The victim lodged a complaint with Police Chowky Tariqabad but no case was registered. Similarly, two dacoits targeted a chemist in Tahli Mohri when he was returning to his medical store after retrieving Rs50,000 from an ATM of a bank. The dacoits snatched Rs50,000 from him and escaped from the scene. Another gang of robbers stormed in a bakery at Tahli Mohri and made off with Rs30,000 cash on gunpoint.

Moreover, two dacoits deprived a young boy namely Mukaram Shehzad of his Honda 125 motorcycle (RIO-4128) on gunpoint from Dheri Hassanabad. The dacoits also opened firing at the young boy when he offered resistance. However, the boy remained unhurt in the ruthless attack. The injustice of the officials of Police Chowky Tariqabad can be judged from the fact that they even did not allow the crime victim to write application and sent him home. The cops themselves prepared a weak police report against the fleeing dacoits in order to show low crime rate in their limits.

SHO Police Station Civil Line Awais Akram, when contacted said that only three incidents of dacoities were reported in his areas since he assumed the charge as SHO three months ago. When asked as to why he was not entertaining the street crime victims, Awais said that how could he register FIRs when there was no crime committed in his areas.
