LAHORE - Members of civil society organisations arranged a candle lit vigil to pay homage to late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi at Chairing Cross in front of Punjab Assembly yesterday.

The participants observed one minute silence for the departed soul and termed him ‘ambassador of humanity’.

Remembering late Edhi as a true patriot and shelter for the homeless, oppressed and marginalised segment of the society, they said his legacy will only continue if we follow the humanity-oriented message of him. “By donating his eyes to people, Edhi Sahab proved his care for humanity,” they added.

People were holding banners and placards inscribed with statements paying tribute to the founder of Pakistan’s largest charitable organisation and world largest ambulance service who was laid to rest in Karachi with state funeral attended by country’s top civilian and military leadership.

The vigil was arranged by Civil Society Network in which large number of people included Amna Ulfat, Dure Sehwar, Amna Malik, Shey Pervaiz, Mian Tariq and Abdullah Malik present on the occasion.

On the occasion, a large banner of Abdul Sattar Edhi with his famous quote on which he stick throughout his life and asked others to follow the ‘No religion is higher than humanity’ was inscribed.

Full Gospel Assemblies Church: The FGA Church arranged prayer service for the Abdul Sattar Edhi attended by large number of people from Christian community. Speakers paying tribute said the great man had unmatchable contrition for the humanity and all religions teach to serve humanity.

Google honours Edhi: Tech giant Google also honoured Pakistan’s great philanthropist and highlighted Edhi’s name to its homepage. It also mentioned Edhi’s date of birth and death (1928 -2016).
