The return of democratic rule by elected representatives, instead of a military dictator, is welcomed by patriotic expatriate Pakistanis. Despite a clear cut mandate against Musharraf and his unconstitutional and arbitrary dismissal of superior judiciary, the retrospective reinstatement of the judges to pre Nov 3 2007 status, remains pending. This has dented credibility of key members of the coalition in the federal government. The mandate given by the people of Pakistan, it seems, has been abused by those who assumed executive control of parliament and PM House, as much as the unconstitutional occupant of the Presidency. In his recent visit to Jeddah PM Gillani has called upon Pakistanis to send all their hard-earned remittances through banks, so that Pakistan is able to come out of the financial crisis created by years of mismanagement. My question for the elected PM of Pakistan is to name just a few members of his federal cabinet who are so loyal to the country that they are not holding dual nationalities. Name just one man with whom our foreign remittances can be considered safe and not end up in the foreign bank accounts. No sovereign nation in the world can afford to let any individual holding foreign immigration status and be selected for an assignment, which can have a long lasting effect on the lives and future of citizens of a country. But we do. The last eight years of rule by Musharraf and his imported PM were stigmatized with appointments to sensitive posts in federal government and other semi autonomous corporations, of persons holding dual nationalities, which led to systematic plunder of our assets. -IRFAN BUTT, Manchester, UK, via e-mail, June 9.
