I have read the article of Syed Ali Zafar titled 'Urban Hunger: a ticking time bomb' in your paper on 29-05-2008. The writer has given valuable advice to the present government to discontinue the awful tradition of blaming the past government for weakening of financial situation and price hikes. Simply crying over the spilt milk of past government is no service to the people; rather it shows that the government is not capable of overcoming the situation. The real service to the nation is to bail out the economy from crisis through revival of the economy. Food shortage and lack of buying power in Pakistan is a ticking time bomb for the nation. A poor man may live without other necessities of life but cannot live without the food. So the relevant ministries of the government need to take a look at the suggestions of Syed Ali Zafar and make concrete policies to save us from this ticking time bomb. If something is not done, the result would be stealing and snatching of food from shops leading to open looting by hungry crowds. Riots and rebellion would become a routine matters and the government will be unable to control. -TALIB HUSSAIN, via e-mail, May 29.
