Clever politician that he is, Maulana Fazalur Rehman sometimes outscores even the MQM in realpolitiks. Recently, he issued a typically 'humanitarian statement saying 'his people were dying in FATA and the government was watching in silence, taking no action. So, said the Maulana, if such atrocities continue, he would be obliged to say goodbye to the coalition government. We are used to hearing this kind of threats every so often from the MQM which, by the way, never ends its cooperation with the ruling party. Maulana, I am sure, means business so not only would the military action in FATA be stopped but under the (considerable) weight of his pressure, Pakistan government would also be forced to fight the case of drone attacks with the Americans. They might even be stopped. Maulana has no personal axe to grind; we all know he never has. -KHUSHBAKHT KHAN, Nowshera, June 10.
