Karachi- At least eight people, including three Shias, were gunned down in separate acts of violence in Karachi on Monday.
Two men belonging to Shia sect were shot dead in Nazimabad area. The victims were identified as Mohsin Raza, 45, a resident of Malir and a grade-18 CDGK chief engineer, and his companion, Ahmed Hussain, 46, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony. Police said the two men had just reached Imambargah Noor-e-Iman on a car to offer prayers when unidentified gunmen on two motorbikes attacked them and fled. They both received bullets while their friend, Burhan, who was seated in the back row of the car, remained safe in the attack. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. Both the victims had affiliation with Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Labour Division. Police suspected it might be an incident of politico-sectarian violence. Investigation is in an advanced stage. Another Shia community member Shafi Ahmed, 27, a CDGK employee, was mowed down in Orangi Town.
Three dead in Lyari
At least three more lost their lives and dozens of others sustained injuries in an unabated clash between the Katchi Rabita Council and Amman Committee gangsters on Monday.
Use of heavy weapons including rockets and hand-grenades continued by the gangsters headed by Noor Muhammad aka Baba Ladla. Witnesses said the intermittent warfare lasted for hours in various areas including Agratajj, Hanif Manzil, Bihar Colony, Kamaila Stop and Salar Compound on the second consecutive day.
The situation got tense as the gangsters took a man at main Tower Stop and shot him multiple times. Dozens of armed gangsters ridding on motorbikes also got into Kharader area and abducted four KRC supporters. They also picked up two sympathisers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement from Dhobi Ghat area and later threw their bullet-riddled bodies in Usmanabad area. Another four bodies of abducted persons were also recovered from different areas of Lyari.
