LAHORE - The Lahore Bar Association on Monday observed a strike against the decision of the administration of the Lahore High Court according to which some references were sent to the Punjab Bar Council for action against certain lawyers.
The legal fraternity did not appear before the courts the whole day. They strongly condemned the allegations levelled against their colleagues and the references thereafter against them to the Punjab Bar Council.
The Lahore Bar Association’s elected body had announced a press conference bit it was later cancelled as it would have caused serious complications between the bench and the bar.
The bar had announced to hold a strike on the second day (today) against the Punjab Bar Council and the administration of the Lahore High Court.
Sources said the LBA was planning to meet with the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, and was quite hopeful regarding the ongoing tussle between them.
After the full day strike, the litigants suffered a lot as their cases were adjourned to later dates. Those people who had come from other cities and far off areas were looking too much worried in the scorching heat.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court administration had taken a notice over the letter of District and Sessions Judge Nazir Ahmad Gajjana wherein he had asked the Punjab Bar Council to look into the misbehavior of two lawyers with the judicial officers on the Sessions court premises a few days ago.
An advocate Qamar Shahid had fractured the arm of a process server Tauqeer Abbas just after a judicial magistrate Model Town dismissed post-arrest bail application filed by the said lawyer. On the other hand, LBA Secretary Kamran Bashir Mughal was reported to have appeared before an additional district and sessions judge regarding a fresh appeal and pressed him for interim relief.
He entered the retiring room of the judge and threatened him. Also, the lawyers locked the courtrooms of Additional District and Sessions Judge Khalid Mehmood Bhatti and newly appointed Additional District and Sessions Judge Mehr Abid.
Lahore Bar Association, on the same issue, held two-day strike and boycotted the courts proceedings which caused serious problems to justice seekers.
