LAHORE -

The Lahore High Court (LHC) was told on Monday that former MPA Zobia Rubab Malik wanted to appear before the court in response of cases against her family including husband Asim Malik who was owner of a visa consultancy firm for defrauding public at large.

Their counsels appeared and requested the court to grant protective bail to Zobia Rubab as she feared from arrest.

However, the court turned down the request by observed the issue of bail would be decided after the accused joined the investigation.

Earlier, an officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told the court that they had not yet received any reply from the Interpol against a letter for issuance of Red Warrants for the arrest of couple from Dubai.

The court adjourned hearing and directed the FIA to submit report on steps taken to arrest the accused.

Previously, the court was told FIA had registered 157 cases against Asim Malik while his wife had also been made an accused in the cases. It was further told that the passports of the couple had been cancelled and both were living in Dubai.

Many cases had been moved against Asim Malik by submitting that they had given money to the respondent company for going abroad but they defrauded. They said the company’s chief executive Asim Malik neither sent them abroad nor returned their money to them. The court will resume hearing on June 7.

DECLINED

Justice Abdul Sattar Asghar of the Lahore High Court on Monday declined to hearing a petition against alleged harassment of former dictator Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf and not giving him a chance of fair trial as required by the law.

Justice Asghar referred the case to Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh who is already hearing a case of similar nature.

The petitioner, Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey alleged that former dictator was being subjected to harassment by the state and was treated like a convict even though he was just an under trial prisoner. He said every accused had the fundamental right of being accorded a fair trial and it could not be usurped in any case. He requested that the government should be directed to give complete protection to Musharraf and treat him in accordance with law.
