ATTOCK

The General Post Office which deals with thousands of people on monthly basis and hundreds of people on daily basis and generates handsome revenue for the government is facing unavailability of basic facilities but the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye to the situation.

The GPO is catering the needs of more than 25,000 pensioners and thousands of other people but is having no proper waiting area, furniture and drinkable water. No generator is available thus the pensioners and other visitors including women have to wait for hours because of loadshedding.

The office also lacks spacious building and good environment therefore the staff always faces problems in performing routine duties. Having no proper place, the staff has to dump the official record like heap of garbage and when some pensioner needs some out of the record he has to wait for days.

Some of the employees on the condition of anonymity said that the authorities always made promises but they never materialised these pledges. Pensioners and people from different walk of life have demanded that GPO Attock be equipped with modern facilities and a new building be built to meet the requirements.

RAILCAR DEMANDED: The residents of Attock and its surrounding areas have demanded immediate restoration of Mari Indus Railcar which has been suspended for the last one month causing a lot of inconvenience for the commuters.

Residents of Attock, Jand, Basal, Sulemanabad, Chabb, Dakhner, Jhamat and other nearby localities which include students, government employees, traders and people from different walk of life told journalists that Mari Indus Railcar was the only convenient source of travelling between Mari Indus and Attock and was generating handsome revenue for Pakistan Railways and therefore its suspension is beyond comprehension. They demanded that Federal Minister for Railways Saad Rafiq should restore the service.
