The District Administration is learnt to have decided to get the services of Punjab Police's Special Branch for detecting power pilferers in Multan, sources disclosed. Besides other areas of the district, the special branch will focus walled city area and evolve the lists of power thieves in Hussain Agahi, Pak Gate, Kala Mandi, Lohari Gate and other walled city areas. Sources said that the joint teams of police and Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) will conduct raids on the information given by the special branch.

Similarly, the Mepco authorities have also decided to launch crackdown on double source connections. Mepco sources revealed that a comprehensive strategy was devised by the company to nab power pilferers and to eliminate the role of Mepco's linemen in facilitating the consumers having double source connections.

Meanwhile, chairing a meeting of Mepco officials, the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Multan Syed Gulzar Shah directed them to ensure equal loadshedding at all feeders. He also issued orders for uninterrupted 20-hour power supply to Nishtar Hospital, Multan Institute of Cardiology, Children Complex Hospital and Lahore High Court Multan Bench. He directed the Assistant Commissioners Saddar and City as well as TMOs to bind all marriage clubs owners to shut down their outlets at 10:00 pm. He warned that heavy fines would be imposed on the marriage clubs found open after 10:00 pm while the premises would also be sealed by the concerned TMA. He declared that illumination would not be allowed at any private building while there would also be a strict ban on functions at open places after 10:00 pm.

The DCO directed all officers of district administration to strictly comply with the orders of the government regarding power conservation, asking them not to turn on air conditioners of their offices before 11:00am.
