Solar pumps to address water issue

QUETTA - In order to address the drinking water issue in far-flung areas of district Nushki, Azat Foundation (AF) Balochistan in collaboration with USAID’s Small Grants and Ambassador’s Fund Program (SGAFP) has launched a project installing solar pumps.
People in remote areas of Nushki and other districts are facing acute shortage of potable water and incessant loadshedding has further aggravated the situation.
Due to non availability of potable water people are compelled to drink contaminated water from ponds and pool owing to this many different water-borne diseases are rife in distained areas of Nushki and other districts.
A total 400 households would be direct beneficiaries of this project and more than 350 HHs would be indirect beneficiaries.
The prime objective of this project is to cutback water borne diseases through provision of innovative and sustainable infrastructure and rising on good practices for safe drinking water and hygiene in the two UCs of Daak and Anambostan of tehsil and district Nushki Balochistan.
The launching ceremony of installing solar pumps was held in Nushki which was attended by large number of people, including that of Deputy Commissioner Nushki Naseer Ahmed Nasir, leaders of various political parties and notables of the districts.
Zahid Ahmed Mengal Executive Director Azat Foundation threw light on the project and said that provision of drinking water was longstanding demand of people of remote areas. He said that through constructing surface water tanks and installing solar pumps would ensure safe and clean drinking water to the residents of seven villages and the population contiguous to these villages of district Nushki.
He said that through this project AF is crafting drinking water supply schemes functional through renewable energy sources (i.e. Solar Energy). He said the proposed solution i.e. Solar Pumping will replace the existing diesel engines installed on the tube wells with submersible well pump powered by solar panels.
Deputy Commissioner and other speakers on the occasion appreciated USAID for supporting this project and said that this project will not be a cause to decrease the water issue but will be the reason to decrease the educational, financial and health issue either.
