Islamabad - Some civil society members and parents gathered in front of a private school on Wednesday in protest against the school administration for trying to protect its employee who is accused of molesting a child.
Parents of other students and civil society members were present for protest outside Islamabad Convent School, F-8/4. The protest was against the school for trying to protect a man who is a sexual predator, they said.
According to the protesters, a 7-year-old student of the school went home one Thursday last and could not eat properly because his throat was hurt.
He hesitantly described to his mother how he was sexually assaulted by the school photographer in the bathroom of the school. The molester had also threatened to kill him if he would tell anyone, the child revealed.
When the parents went to the school, the principal and administration told the parents to relax and they would fix the issue. On the 3rd day the parents called Rescue 15 and asked the police to come to the school. The police examined the scene of crime and arrested the accused.
However, when the parents went to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical report, the doctor confirmed that the student had been sexually assaulted but he did not mention this in the report allegedly because of receiving some unknown calls.
“We are out to protect children because we do not want school to be unsafe for children,” said Usama Khilji, one of the protesters. “The school administration should have taken immediate action against the employee instead of trying to protect him. Otherwise he will do the same with other children.”
The SHO of the area and other police officers also reached the protest site and assured the parents that action would be taken.
The administration of the school could not be contacted for comments but an official statement displayed on the notice board of the school reads: “A complaint against our employee was received from the parents of one of the students wherein serious and heinous allegations were levelled against him. Considering the gravity of the allegations the administration of Convent has opted to render the complaint to the concerned police station. Service of the employee had been suspended from the school.”
