The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday rejected the appeal of Dr Farooq Sattar and declared Khalid Maqbool Siddique as party convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P). Siddiqui associates himself from Bahadurabad group of MQM-P.

Earlier, on March 26, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had ordered that Farooq Sattar would no longer serve as the convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P). Sattar had then challenged the verdict in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The court had reserved its verdict in the case on April 17 and today Islamabad High Court, Judge Justice Amir Farooq, announced the verdict.

Earlier, MQM-P had been divided into different groups over a dispute regarding the nominations for the Senate elections. MQM-P PIB Colony faction was led by Sattar, while the Bahadurabad group comprised of Amir Khan, Nasreen Jalil, and Khalid Maqbool among others.
