RAWALPINDI - An accountability court here on Wednesday rejected a petition filed by Salman Farooqi, Principal Secretary to President Asif Ali Zardari, seeking acquittal in ARY Gold reference. According to details, Salman Farooqis counsel Advocate Justice (Retd) Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmed Khan appeared before the AC Judge Wamiq Javed and submitted the petition in the reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Special Prosecutor Mirza Usman Baig appeared before the court on behalf of NAB. Salman Farooqi was also present in the court on this occasion. The Judge observed that the application could not be accepted without completing evidence in the reference. Salman Farooqi had submitted the application under section 265-K of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and sought his acquittal saying that he was wrongly implicated in the reference. Talking to TheNation, Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmed told that his client had filed the application stating that he was wrongly implicated in the reference, as his name was not included in the main reference rather it was only incorporated in the supplementary reference. Meanwhile, another accountability court adjourned the hearing of an application filed by NAB seeking reopening of cases against PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and some of their family members. The Judge heard the three references including Hudabia Paper Mills, Ittifaq Foundry and Raiwind assets against Sharif family. NABs Additional Prosecutor General Raja Afzal and Arif Chohan appeared before the court and told he had been made the prosecutor in the references following the sacking of special prosecutor Abdul Basir Qureshi and needed more time to prepare the case. On this, the court put off the hearing till March 19.
