PESHAWAR Chairperson Women Organising Committee for the 31st National Games MPA Shagufta Malak has said that more than 1700 women athletes will take part in various games hoping that women competitors will show the best performance in this big sports gala which will commence from March 25 to 31 in Peshawar. Speaking at a program at Media Center in Qayyum Sports Complex here on Wednesday, she said that all arrangements had already been finalised. Due to lack of facilities and other reasons, some women competitions besides Peshawar would also be held in Abbottabad and Islamabad. Flanked by officials Sajida Sufi and Miss Nadia, Shagufta Malak said that a total of 12 different women games had been included in the 31st National Games. The camps for women players from the NWFP were in full progress. Our women players will come up as per our expectation by winning medals for the province. We hope to win gold medal in Badminton game. Replying to a query, she came down hard on MMAs five years government, she alleged that it was the MMA which had done nothing for sports in the province, except setting up Women Sports Directorate by separating it from NWFP Sports Directorate and it had been done just to accommodate some party females there. She said that the present government was committed to host this mega sports event which, she said, was need of the time to hold such sports galas in the NWFP, the most militancy-hit province of the country and it would pass on a positive message to the West that Pakhtuns were not terrorists.
