LAHORE - PML-Q will get hundred percent success, if the upcoming local bodies polls are held in a free and transparent manner, remarks Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Ch Zaheer-ud-Din. Ch Zaheer, who is also provincial secretary general of PML-Q, expressed these views while talking to Richard C Jao, Political and Economic Officer in the US Consulate, Lahore at Opposition Chambers on Wednesday. Richard C Jao met Ch Zaheer and discussed political affairs of the province in detail. Ch Zaheer told Richard C Jao that the district governments enjoy the status of local governments throughout the world, while the task of the federal and provincial parliaments was legislation only. However, the incumbent coalition governments have created hindrances in the way of district governments, which have been working smoothly for the last eight years. Richard C Jao said the US would continue its support for strengthening the democracy in Pakistan. He also said the people of Pakistan were staunch supporters of democracy. Govt to appoint supervisors at RHCs, BHUs The Punjab government is planning to appoint Health and Nutritional Supervisors at RHCs and BHUs to train the school teachers who will create awareness among public against congenital and malnutrition diseases in children. This was told by Fawad Hassan Fawad Secretary Health, while inaugurating the two-day workshop on Community Management of Acute Malnutrition at King Edward Medical University, Mayo Hospital. Mr Fawad further said that Govt of the Punjab is utilizing all the sources to provide best possible medical treatment to public especially ladies and children. This workshop was managed by Department of Social and Preventive Ped-iatrics KEMU in collaborations with the Health Department Government of the Punjab and UNICEF. Prof Zafar Ullah Khan Vice Chancellor in his address said that the University is trying to provide best possible medical facilities to patients besides medical education and training to the students. Dr Zahid Pervez MS said that 1.2 million patient were checked at Mayo Hospital last year. 1.8 million Investigations were done, whereas 3,000 X-Rays, 13,000 CT Scan and 96,000 Operations were done last year. Dr Ketsamay Rajph-ongthong Chief Unicef said that the Unicef is cooperating to minimize infant mortality rate in Punjab. Prof Nosheen Aziz in her welcome address said that purpose of the workshop is to train 30 doctors, nurses and Health Visitors from District Sheikhupura and Kasur to control the Malnutrition and its complications in children under 5 years. Meeting A meeting of the Punjab University Advanced Studies and Research Board (AS&RB) will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10:00am in the Committee Room of the Vice-Chancellor's Office at New Campus, Lahore.
