ISLAMABAD - A three-member bench of the Supreme Court is taking up police torture case here today (Thursday). Earlier, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo moto notice after private TV channels aired footages of police torture in different cities of Punjab. Justice Javed Iqbal would head the bench. Justice Sair Ali and Justice Tariq Pervaiz will be other judges of the bench. Notices have been issued to IGs, home secretaries, advocate generals of all the four provinces and other concerned officials. Last week a three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice ordered that committees comprising officials concerned in the four provinces and Islamabad should submit reports through the advocates general and the attorney general on March 11.
