LAHORE - Pakistan People’s Party Secretary General Jahangir Badr has said that we would have to collectively fight the ‘fake people’ using backdoors to topple democracy. He was addressing the participants of 85th anniversary of Hailey College of Commerce held at the college lawn here on Saturday. This year, the ceremony was dedicated to pay tribute to the founder of the college Sir Ganga Ram. College Principal Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, former chairman federal board of revenue Abdullah Yousaf, former chief secretary Javed Bani, Chairman HKB Bashir A Bakhsh, former principal HCC Chaudhry Nazir, Ejaz Akbar, Zubair Farooq Kashmiri, faculty members, former principals of HCC and renowned Hailians participated on the occasion. He said that he had faced four autocrats only because of the leadership qualities developed by HCC. He said that my Principal Prof Murtaza Khan taught him the lesson of living with respect and that’s why he was jailed in martial laws but he chose the way which gave him respect. He said the second lesson which the HCC gave him was that one should give all the wealth if it could save one’s life but if we have to choose between life and respect then one should sacrifice one’s life. He said that’s why, he was enjoying respect in his life. He said that today’s world was a political economy and trade was more important than politics. He said that today’s young generation was better then them and urged the young people to play positive role in the progress of the country. Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Yousaf, Javed Bani, Bashir A Bakhsh, Chaudhry Nazir, Ejaz Akbar, Zubair Farooq Kashmiri said that the event had revived the memories of the past and Old Hailians were happy to see each other. They said that Hailey College not only imparted quality education to them but also played its role in building their character. They also shared happy memories of their academic stay in the college. They congratulated organizers for orchestrating a successful event. Principal Hailey College Prof Dr Liaqat Ali briefed the participants about the academic developments and achievements of the college.
