RAWALPINDI - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that the previous governments took more than three years for the construction of flyover, besides spending million of rupees, but Punjab government for the first time in history built Kalma Chowk Flyover in Lahore and Chandni Chowk Flyover in Rawalpindi in a record time i.e. four months.

Mian Shahbaz Sharif, however, acknowledged the failure of his own government in changing “Thana Culture,” what he said, the thieves were being treated as “Chaudhries” while turning criminals into a respectable citizen in the police stations after getting bribe. The CM was addressing a mammoth public gathering at Pir Mehar Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMAS-AAUR) after inaugurating Chandni Chowk Flyover, built with Rs 1,200 million, on Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR) on Saturday.

He also announced that construction work of 6th Road flyover would be started soon. He said that keeping in view the traffic mess in other parts of the city, more flyovers and underpass would also be built.  The Punjab chief minister was addressing a public gather here.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government would dole out 125,000 laptops among the brilliant students of colleges and universities across province while would distribute 95,000 laptops among the students in Rawalpindi soon who would excel in education. “In the upcoming budget PML-N league will give away 300,000 laptops to brilliant students” he added.

He said that police have failed in providing justice to poor people as the criminals and looters were given respect in police station after receiving bribe. He said that lower courts were also selling justice to the masses. He said that a total of 70,000 teachers had been recruited in Punjab on pure merit base and no one could raise finger on the recruitment process.

Hitting PPP government very hard, Shahbaz was of view that Zardari plundered national kitty and deposited looted money in Swiss banks while Prime Minister Gilani was protecting his master by not writing a letter to Swiss authorities to reopen corruption cases against Zardari despite clear directions of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

“Listen Zardari, people of Pakistan have become familiar with the long list of your crimes. Now your days have been numbered and the time has come that people of Pakistan will kick out Ali Baba and his 40 thieves from Awan-e-Sdr,” said Shahbaz adding that PML-N would also clean the garbage from power corridors as swiftly as it constructed flyovers. He asked people to vote for N league in upcoming general elections to make Pakistan prosperous and strengthen. On this, the charged N league workers, holding party flags, portraits of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, chanted slogans “Go Zardari Go” and against former President Pervez Musharraf.

The gathering was attended by Senator Pervez Rasheed, MNAs Hanif Abbasi, Shakil Awan, Malik Abrar, Tahira Aurangzeb, Senator Begum Najma Hamid, MPAs Zia Ullah Shah, Malik Iftikhar, Sarfraz Afzal, local leadership including Zahid Qureshi and a large numbers of other office-bearers.

Tight security arrangements were made on the occasion while police also misbehaved with media men. A large number of distressed people including old aged women and men tried to hand over their complaints to CM against police and revenue department but the security personnel did not allow them to do so.
