KARACHI - A new political organisation of Sindhi women was launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day here the other day.

The political initiative comes from Awami Jamhoori Party. Sindhi Aurat Tanzeem (SAT) would work as women front of the AJP. A 30-member organising committee was formed by Nazeer Qureshi, and its members Shabnam Chandio, Shahzadi Hussain Jarwar, Zarena Narejo, Rubina Qureshi, Naila Kazi and Saeeda Gopang. Beside SAT leaders, AJP President Abrar Kazi, Dr Fahmida Hussain, Waderi Nazo Junejo, SANA’s Vice President Noor Nisa Ghanghro, Inam Shaikh, Hussain Bux Narejo and others spoke.

Speakers said it was heartening to see this initiative as Sindhi women need their organised political voices. Sindhi Aurat Tanzeem should be able to present an alternative to Sindhi women, political organisation is the most advance expression of any society.

Sindh needs it badly especially the ones who hailed from working class. There are not many women in politics except those who inherit politics from their landlord families, these women despite being in parliament treat politics as their family concern.

Newly-elected organiser of SAT, Nazeer Qureshi said oppression of women was not acceptable. Sindh has been turned a political fiefdom of the upper class. There is a complete take of politics by feudals and elite, women can liberate politics from this dominance.

She called upon Sindhi women to unite under new political front of women to counter the out-dated political forces in Sindh.
