ISLAMABAD  - President FPCCI Senator Haji Ghulam Ali has said that establishing the Special Economic Zones would attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country.

While presiding over a meeting on Saturday, he said that FPCCI appreciated the parliament for adopting the bill regarding SEZs. Tariq Saeed, Vice President CACCI Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President SAARC CCI, S.M Muneer, President Indo-Pak Chamber of Commerce and Industry and former President FPCCI and Vice Presidents of FPCCI, Haroon Rasheed, Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed Dhingra, Mirza Abdul Rehman, Engr Daroo Khan, Muhammad Iqbal Dawood Pakwala, Zubair Ali, Sheikh Abdul Waheed and Azhar Majeed attended the meeting.

They also applauded the effort made by Board of Investment (BOI) for preparing a framework for the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) throughout the country. This is indeed a right direction for boosting investment level in the country for which BOI’s efforts are appreciable.

They further stated that the effectiveness of the SEZs model in promoting exports have created new dimension in the global trade arena. In order to overcome the shortcomings of infrastructures Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are considered best production zones.

Special economic zones (SEZs) have played an important role in advancing economic reform in many emerging economies. A SEZ is a comprehensive laboratory in which fully fledged economic reforms can be piloted, while industrial parks are a supporting component of SEZs, but with an industrial focus.
