The decision of the Apex Court to once again require the Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to write a letter to Swiss authorities irrespective of any advice to open the case of President Asif Ali Zardari’s bank accounts indicates a superhuman judicial restraint. In fact according to normal lexicon the buck stops at the Prime Minister being the Chief Executive as once stated by President Truman “The buck stops at me” when he ordered the atom bomb attack on Japan in the 2nd World War. The advice of P.M.’s subordinates is not binding on the P.M. as is the case of advice of P.M. to the President where it is ultimately binding on the President. Normally, the earlier order of the Apex Court would have been sufficient to be acted upon but the Apex Court has taken yet another step to show that Justice is seen to have been done. It is now the P.M. who has to respond to the gracious act of the Court so as not to respond in a disgraceful manner that would pave the way for the Law to take its course.
