The plans for modernizing Pakistan Railways (PR) are ambitious and the government has started work to bring back Pakistan Railways as an earning entity with improved services. At a cost of Rs.4.0 billion, with China’s assistance, the Railways is planning on improving the signal system and the tracks. Both will be modernized to bring it up to par with the new and improved systems.

There was a time when Pakistan Railways was known for its outstanding service and usefulness but due to negligence by the previous government it gradually declined and came to a stop with many routes closed and halted regular travellers. It is indeed a huge task but by taking small steps and gradual improvement it can be bought back as a safe and easy mode of transport in Pakistan.
