LAHORE - The Punjab government will frame policy guideline on the basis of research done by eminent economists for providing better services to the people and build capacity of public departments to enable them discharge their duties towards people more efficiently and dedicatedly.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presiding over a high level meeting here yesterday reviewed various proposals framed for better services to the people, improvement in social sectors and the system of tax collection.

The chief minister laid stress on making full use of the information technology for providing better services to masses and ensure best use of the provincial resources.

The chief minister told the meeting about a number of basic reforms in the system made to the benefit of common man after a number of initiatives have already been taken on the side of education, health and social sector to cater to their basic needs. He said that information technology will have to be fully utilised for providing better services to the people besides proper and timely use of resources. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistani women are very talented and hard working and have proved their abilities in different sectors.

He said that Punjab government has taken solid measures for the progress of women and bringing them into national mainstream. He said that women have been given 33 per cent representation on all decision-making boards and committees while their quota in government jobs has been increased from 5 per cent to 15 per cent. He said that working hostels are being set up in various districts for the benefit of working women. Shehbaz Sharif said that vocational training courses are also being conducted under Punjab Vocational Training Council for economic empowerment of women. He said that special centers are being established in the province for the protection of the rights of women and controlling violence against them. He was talking to MNA Shaista Pervaiz Malik. The chief minister said that men and women will have to make collective efforts for transforming Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state in accordance with the principles of founders of the country and elimination of poverty and ignorance from the society.

He said that Pakistan cannot make progress without participation of women in development process and giving them due status in the society. Shehbaz Sharif said that it is the need of the hour that participation of women should be ensured in the practical fields fully benefitting from their talent. He said that Pakistan can be made a prosperous and developed country through empowerment of women and giving them equal opportunities of progress.

While addressing a meeting through video link on another occasion, Shehbaz Sharif has said that Apparel Park project will play an important role in the development of textile and garments sector besides generation of lakhs of job opportunities. He said that there is a need to further this project in a professional manner and all departments and institutions concerned should work with close coordination.

The chief minister said that a labour colony and a state-of-the-art skill development center will also be set up under the project. He reprimanded authorities concerned over delay in some matters pertaining to the project and warned that no delay in the implementation of the project will be tolerated.

He said that steering committee should review the pace of the project regularly and take decisions independently as he wants results. He directed that the design of skill development center should be formulated as early as possible.
