Govt desires to have two airlines to provide better traveling facilities: Minister

ISLAMABAD: The government desires to have two airlines to promote competition and provide better travelling facilities to the commuters.

This was stated by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad during question hour in Senate today.

He said 'Pakistan Airways' has been registered with Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan but still its main features are being worked out. The Minister said there will be public shares in the new company in order to make it a profitable entity.

Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said annually two tree plantation campaigns are conducted to enhance forest cover and make environment clean. He said paper mulberry trees are gradually being removed to free the capital territory from pollen allergy.

He told the house that Peshawar Mor Interchange costing five to six billion rupees will soon be completed.

He said the construction of the interchange is part of Islamabad-Rawalpindi metro bus project.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the educational institutions in the federal capital are being upgraded and revamped under the Prime Minister's education reforms program. Under the initiative, two hundred buses will also be given to the public sector schools.

Responding to a calling attention notice, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad said the election commission of Pakistan is a constitutional body and responsibility rests with it to ensure free, fair and transparent elections.

He said it is also the responsibility of political parties to support the election commission in its efforts aimed at ensuring fairness in the next general elections to be held in 2018.

He clarified that the recent transfers made in the commission were purely on administrative basis.

The house passed The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2015.

The bill moved by Federal Minister Zahid Hamid amends the Pakistan Penal Code 1860 and the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898.

The house referred The National University of Sciences and Technology (Amendment) bill 2016 to the standing committee concerned for further consideration.
