ISLAMABAD - Perhaps for the first time in past three decades, Ch Nisar Ali Khan, once considered as the most powerful person in the ruling PML-N, was completely kept out of the preparations plan for the social media convention to be addressed by Maryam Nawaz in Rawalpindi today(Sunday).

The most painful aspect of the development was that the banners and hoardings which used to carry the portrait of Ch Nisar Ali Khan as essential part and in a conspicuous way in the past are not carrying it this time around.

Giving an excuse, a senior PML-N leader from Rawalpindi said Ch Nisar Ali Khan avoided taking part in such activities, but he did not answer why his portrait was not seen in most of the banners and hoardings displayed across the city especially on the route Maryam Nawaz would be using to reach the venue.

Chasm between former interior minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan and the party leadership has widened after the disqualification of former premier Nawaz Sharif.

A senior party leader from Rawalpindi, who did not want to disclose his identity, said those who never stop praising Ch Nisar Ali Khan and his uprightness are now reluctant to talk about him and those dubbing him honour of Potohar region have kept mum.

He said in his heyday, right from taking decisions about each and every party issue to the distribution of party tickets in the region, Ch Nisar Ali Khan was considered as the final word and no one, even the top party leadership, dared to alter his decision.

But those considered his blue-eyed are now reluctant to speak in his favour and it was that fear which led to keeping his portrait out from the main banners and billboards just to avoid inviting displeasure of the party leadership.

Without naming Senator Pervaiz Rashid, another party leader regretted those who did not dare to speak in front of him (Nisar) were hurling allegations on him and suggesting him to leave the party.

Keeping in view the distaste of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, the banners and hoardings erected around the stage have no portrait of Ch Nisar Ali Khan and mainly carry the portraits of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Ch Tanvir Khan, his son Barrister Danial Chaudhry, Hanif Abbasi, Malik Ibrar, Rawalpindi Mayor Sardar Naseem and other local and central leaders.

Meanwhile, the stage is set to accord a befitting welcome to Mayram Nawaz, daughter of PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, when she will arrive at Fawara Chowk in Rawalpindi.

PML-N leaders from Rawalpindi are preparing for the rally which is given the name of social media convention. In this connection, a series of corner meetings and political gatherings were organised in various parts of the city to mobilise the general public for the maiden appearance of Maryam Nawaz in the city which is considered as mini-Raiwind.

The city streets were decorated with banners and hoardings carrying welcome slogans and huge portraits of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and other central and local leaders. Some 80-foot-long and 20-foot-wide stage for the convention is already in place.

The party flags and big pictures of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz have been installed all around Raja Bazar and Fawara Chowk.
