Herbert V. Prochnow (1897 -1998) was a US banking executive and author during the middle 20th century. As Vice President of the First National Bank of Chicago, Prochnow wrote several popular books on public speaking. He also wrote epigrams and anecdotes that appeared in The Saturday Evening Post. A quote referred to him needs to be pondered by our present leaders, Musharraf, Zardari and Nawaz et al. Mr Prochnow once said "There is a time when we must firmly choose the course we will follow, or the relentless drift of events will make the decision for us". That forced decision may not be suitable for the nation nor for our leaders. -MIR TABASSUM MAIRAJ, Islamabad, via e-mail, April 25.
