RAWALPINDI - Thousands of dwellers of Sadiq Colony and Dhok Hazarian of Girja Road are deprive of basic facilities because of negligence of the PML-N elected public representatives and officials of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB). These areas are located in NA-52 and UC-87 of Chak Jalal Din of City District Government. Scattered heaps of filth, lack of cleanliness, poor sewerage system, choked gutters stagnant smell, uncarpeted and muddy streets and roads, shortage of water and absence of water filtration plants have made these areas an epic centre of problems. This has also made the lives of residents miserable. While talking to TheNation during a survey the residents complained of these growing problems on Sunday. Streets are cemented by the administration, but there is no drainage system at all and a little downpour is sufficient to turn the whole area into a pool of dirty water and makes it impossible for the locals to enter the area and main road. The local shopkeepers including vegetable, fruit sellers and vendors often through the wastes of their shops on the road. The officials of RCB and elected representatives of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) are also not paying attention towards the troubles, being faced by the people and condition of the area is getting worst day-by-day. Mahroof Bibi, an aged resident of the area said there was only one way that led to nearby market is littered with garbage. The pedestrians as well as motorists are facing difficulties owing to the heaps of garbage. The authorities concerned should take pity on the poor condition of the area, she added. We have been getting contaminated water because sewerage is mixing with drinking water because of outdated pipelines causing different diseases like hepatitis A, B and C and other stomach diseases among children and adults Abdul Ghani said. He demanded of the authorities to handle the situation strictly and direct the concerned officials to solve their problems and ensure supply of clean drinking water. Haji Kala Khan, a member of the nearby mosque committee, was of view that the MNA and MPA of PML-N as well as officials of RCB were showing their complete negligence and these areas has been turned into pond of grubby water. Owing to absence of some proper sewerage system and the clothes of Nimazis are often got unclean and they could not offer their prayers, he added. Begum Fazal Rehman said that she lost her both legs in a road mishap and has been on bed rest for last 10 years. I feel embracement when some of my relatives come to enquire my health but ask me on phone that from where one should come to your home as there is no proper way to walk or ply vehicle she asserted and demanded the government should carpet the road and streets. No body is paying heed to our miseries and the heaps of garbage and stink smell would affect the peoples lungs Muhammad Riaz told The Nation. These areas are located in the jurisdiction of RCB and should also be looked clean. But unfortunately the sanitary workers of the civic body did not visit the area for long, Naima Khan a house wife said. It is hard to breathe due to stinking garbage in our locality, said Hamid Mehmood Khan, a resident of Dhoke Hazarian. Sanitary workers should lift garbage regularly, he added. When contacted Nazim UC-87 Muhammad Asif, he told this scribe that these two towns are under the administration of RCB and the civic body is also responsible for its cleanness. Several complaints have been lodged with RCB high ups to clean these areas but no any action has been taken so far. He said that a large piece of land, which is creating problems for the residents due to filthy heaps of garbage, has become a bone of contention between Qasim Army Aviation and the local residents and a case in this regard also under litigation in High Court.
