PESHAWAR Ten soldiers and 37 Taliban militants were killed in a clash on Monday after the militants ambushed a military search team in Kalyan area of Orakzai Agency, while 16 other militants were arrested in different areas of Kohat and Khyber Agency. Sources informed that the military team was targeted when it was busy in routine search operation in the area. Ten soldiers were killed in the attack while several others got injured. It is worth mentioning here that government has mounted an anti-militant drive in the tribal region of Orakzai in the recent weeks. Meanwhile, police and security forces arrested 13 suspected militants from different areas of Kohat. Police sources informed that the suspected militants were arrested in a joint action of security forces and police. The security forces also recovered three hand grenades, three AK-47 rifles, hundreds of cartridges and other ammunition from their possession. Talking to journalists, DPO Kohat Dilawar Khan said that arrested militants had been shifted to an unknown location for interrogation. Yet in another crackdown, the security forces arrested three militants in Aka Khail area of Khyber Agency. The arrested persons were shifted to an unknown location. Agencies add: Military officials described the battle near Daburi about 16 km west of Orakzais main town Kalaya as fierce and said two officers were among the ten who died. They also told AFP that 37 militants were reportedly killed and many injured. The government forces entered the area yesterday and today they were carrying out searches when militants attacked and killed 10 soldiers, he said. The clash lasted for several hours, a government official said.
