MULTAN - Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Multan chapter has rejected Healthcare Bill being enforced by the Punjab government, saying it is a vicious conspiracy to exploit the doctors. Addressing a Press conference here at Multan Press Club on Monday, district president of PMA Dr Shahid Rao and senior vice president Dr Rana Altaf said that the medical practitioners would fully resist the bill and it would not be accepted at any cost. They said that the government was forcing the doctors to go on strike. 'If the rulers continue to overlook the problems being faced by the doctors, well give a protest call, they warned. They claimed that the government befooled the doctors in the name of confirmation. 'The doctors confirmed by the government have to face Rs10,000 to Rs15,000 cut on their salaries. Its ridiculous, they added. They demanded of the government to introduce pay protection mechanism for increase in doctors salaries. They said that the hospitals were overcrowded and it was need of the hour that the number of seats in government hospitals should be increased forthwith. They pointed out that a large number of posts were lying vacant in government hospitals, asking the government to fill them forthwith. They demanded of the government to promote those doctors in teaching cadre, who had qualified FCPS examination. They called for lifting of ban from promotion of senior registrars and confirmation of all contract doctors.
