LAHORE - The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sought reply from federal and provincial governments as well as presidents of high court bar association at Multan, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi benches on a 21-year-old petition against the formation of regional benches of the court by former dictator Gen Ziaul Haq. The petition was filed by a senior lawyer MD Tahir (late) in year 1989, however, remained pending adjudication with the court. On Monday, Dr Abdul Basit argued on the petition saying that former dictator Gen Ziaul Haq had formed regional benches of high courts including Lahore High Court in 1981 to divide the judiciary. He said the act was in violation of the constitution and without lawful authority, which was liable to be set aside. Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry sought replies from the respondents till May 26.
