FAISALABAD - Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry on Thursday warned the government would not be able to control the situation trigged by the demonstrations and strikes to be called by the angry industrial workers against power outages.
FCCI President Muzammil Sultan and Vice President Rehan Naseem Bharara also feared massive job losses and industrial closures, if the energy crisis persists in the industrial areas. They regretted that loadshedding has increased to 18 hours a day, affecting the industrial process and productivity. They urged the government to allocate funds in the forthcoming budget for new power projects and construction of new dams to generate cheap and sufficient electricity. “Moreover, economic well being is must for democracy. Unemployment, price hike and industrial closures always give rise to deplorable condition of law and order. Therefore, government should determine its priorities regarding provision of electricity to the industry according to the ground realities,” they demanded.
