IJT hooliganism condemned

LAHORE – Academic Staff Association (ASA) Punjab University on Thursday condemned vandalism of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) and manhandling of senior professors of the varsity.
According to a press release issued by ASA here on Thursday, IJT activists manhandled the administration of Khalid Bin Waleed Hall, Old Campus and misbehaved with hostel’s Superintendent Prof Asim Rasool. When the members of ASA went to the hostel for express solidarity with Prof Asim Rasool and others to Khalid Bin Waleed Hall, the activist of IJT misbehaved with them, the press release said.
ASA while condemning the incident demanded of the Punjab government to take the notice of the issue and launch operation cleanup in PU hostels. The association also demanded of PU administration to take action against the responsible.
On the other side, Punjab University spokesman strongly condemned the humiliating attitude meted out to teachers and students by rogue elements of a student organization. The spokesman said that some scoundrel elements of only one student organization wanted to destroy peaceful academic atmosphere of campus. He said the organization wanted to establish its hegemony in university but Punjab University administration would not let it be so. He said that Punjab University administration would not tolerate humiliation of students and teachers. He said that the administration would not only deal with these rogue elements with an iron hand but action would also be taken against their supporters according to law.
It is pertinent to mention here that PU administration had cancelled hostel allotment of two rude students on humiliating honourable PU teachers. The spokesman said that the student organization added a dark chapter in the history of PU by calling senior PU teachers dirty names.
