ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s only representative in Women Squash Association (WSA) top 100 players Maria Toor Pakai joined the national training camp in Islamabad on Saturday.
Maria’s arrival gave huge boost to Pakistan’s chances in the upcoming Asian Senior Team Squash Championship in Hong Kong. Talking to The Nation, Maria said: “Although I am enjoying lot of squash in Canada and elsewhere playing in the WSA events on regular basis, yet playing for the country and that too in a major event is a great honor. I am grateful to Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) for providing me this opportunity. I assure I will not disappoint the federation, team and the nation.”
She further said: “The PSF has done a wonderful job by conducting camp for female players and that too with national head coach Jamshed Gul. Females will benefit a great deal from this camp.”
“I had played with Muqaddas Ashraf, Zoya Khalid and Saima Shoukat but didn’t take on young lot yet. I have heard a lot about emerging players like Sammer Anjum, Riffat Khan, Madina Zafar and Sadia Gul, but their game will tell about how good they are? I hope I will enjoy good competitions against them during the camp.”
Sharing his views, PSF secretary Group Captain Amir Nawaz said: “Maria’s arrival will surely make the difference and help the team register crucial victories and earn glory for the country.”
