Who 're their voters?

During the recent political turmoil, the MQM high ups have, unexpectedly, taken the positive step of not supporting the NRO whereas it has also chosen to support the local government system in the country. The MQM chief Altaf Hussain, in his recent telephonic address in the Gilgit Baltistan has also advised the masses not to indulge in Shia-Sunni differences. The one not quite positive thing he has done recently is that he has again tried to create regional differences in people of the area by exploiting the issue of Shandur polo ground which is a part of the district Chitral. During his speech, he said that after being elected, the MQM representatives of the area would raise the issue with the authorities. Our country already has enough problems. Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral are some of the more peaceful areas of the country where ordinary folks have no differences even though our local political leaders do try to raise regional differences from time to time for their own vested interests. Everybody knows that MQM has no roots in these areas. Why are its leaders issuing this kind of irresponsible statement from afar? These statements might sully the pristine air of this land. We have cultural traditional and historical linkages for centuries and we dont want to lose the love we have for each other here. -BASHIR HUSSAIN AZAD, Chitral, November 9.
