KARACHI Punjab University beat Women College Lahore 1-0 with Madeeha scoring the winning goal in the Inter-Varsity Women Championship here Wednesday. In the second match Punjab routed Faisalabad 5-0. Madeeha scored three goals, Bushra Nazir (2) and Asma one goal. In other matches, Womens College Lahore beat Jinnah University 1-0. Nisha scored four goals, Asma added three, Bismah two and Rahila one. Host Karachi University walloped Jinnah University 11-0. Home team captain Nazia Zahid accounted five of the eleven goals which also included a hat trick. Kiran netted three goals and Kashmala, Zohra Abbas and Qurratul Ain got goal each. Faisalabad University is fifth team in the competition. Peshawar and Sargodha University did not turn up at the venue though they had confirmed participation. Earlier there was a controversy about Punjab player Madeeha Latif. The Womens College Lahore had lodged protest against the player who they claimed was playing in Inter-varsity Hockey for the last five years which automatically debars her from playing in the sixth year. The organisers contacted the high ups in the HEC in Islamabad who allowed Madeeha to play for the defending champions Punjab University. Punjab University won its two opening matches in the five-team event which is being played on single league basis.
