Youth shot by cops 5 days ago found dead

LAHORE A 25-year-old youth was recovered dead with serious bullet injuries from the Canal near FC College underpass in Ichra police area, police and rescue workers said on Thursday evening. The police investigators later identified the youth as Tariq Nazir, a resident of Ghaziabad. According to the police version, the youth had jumped into the canal, shortly after he sustained bullet injuries during police encounter on November 5 in Harbanspura police vicinity. Police claimed that the youth jumped into the canal to avoid arrest. However, the police had arrested his accomplice identified as Zarrin Nawaz after the shootout. According to the police, the deceased was wanted to the police in several cases of robberies and other street crimes. Police claimed that they also recovered five cellular phones from his possession. Police sources revealed that apparently it seemed that the policemen killed the youth somewhere else and threw his dead body into the canal to hush up the matter. Rescue workers said that some passersby spotted the dead body floating in the canal and immediately contacted the police emergency service (Rescue-15). The police and rescue workers later reached the spot and pulled out dead body of the youth from the canal. Earlier, police said that it was not clear whether the youth accidentally fell into the canal and died later or anybody threw his body into the canal after killing him. The police have removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy and are investigating. No case has been registered so far. The family of the deceased could not be traced yet.
