MANDI BAHAUDDIN - PPP District President Devan Shameem distributed 14 auto rickshaws among the party workers at a ceremony held here the other day. Speaking on occasion, Devan Shameem said that the PPP was party of downtrodden masses of society and workers were its backbone. He said that the PPP would continue to render sacrifices for the rights of the masses and strengthening the state institutions through democratic measures. He handed over keys of auto rickshaws to party workers and hoped that it would not only improve their financial position but also open up a brighter future. The PPP always came to power with the support of people where as other mainstream parties sought support of establishment to enter power corridors, he claimed. He paid rich tribute to President Asif Ali Zardari who transferred all his powers to the prime minister and restored the 1973 Constitution to its original form with a view to strengthening the institutions and the democracy. Referring to the PPP achievements, he said that during the present government tenure a passport office was opened at Mandi Bahauddin to facilitate people of the district. Similarly, branches of Agriculture Bank were opened in rural area at Gojra and Bhagat to facilitate farmers to get loans without wasting time. He said that thousands of new electricity and gas connections were provided to people in rural and urban areas. Besides the Passco purchasing centre was established at Gojra where farmers of Tehsil Malikwal could easily bring agriculture produce to sell. New roads were built and old roads were renovated and Gilani Road was one of the examples. He further said that the President would announce big development package including construction of bridge on Jhelum River near Chak Shehzad during his visit to Malikwal on November 14. He said that it was the PPP mission to serve people and in this respect there would be no let up. He said that the next general elections were approaching fast and it was time that workers should accelerate their efforts to motivate people to support and vote the PPP.
