RAWALPINDI  – Illegal construction and encroachments continue alongside Nullah Leh on Benazir Bhutto Road due to the apathy of Tehsil Municipal Administration, Rawat Town.

The wall constructed on the Murree Road flanking Javed Colony nullah has been demolished and illegal parking slot was established allegedly in connivance with the TMA Rawal Town.

Moreover, after filling both sides of the nullah on Murree Road with mud and construction of concrete walls plots were also allegedly developed.

Resultantly, water enters houses in low laying areas during rainy season due to decreased width of nullah because of illegal construction but RTMA staff including local lawmakers plays the role of silent spectators over the issue.

The damaged wall flanking Murree road was repaired two months back but some elements demolished the same after few days and established parking slot. Citizens demanded district government to take notice of the illegal constructions on nullahs and stop encroachments in the city.

Meanwhile, the TMA Rawal Town has failed to end car showrooms from footpaths and service roads on Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road). The service roads and footpaths in Rehmanabad and Liaquat Bagh are fully grabbed by the auto showrooms, depriving the pedestrians from a facility specifically provided to them.

Sources said that inquiry into the allotments to the showrooms owners at Shamsabad on the directives of high officials was buried upon political pressure. Similarly, pedestrians and visitors are very irked by the transporters who park their vehicles on pedestrian areas blocking the way of the commuters and smooth flow of the traffic.

Moreover, the visitors of the Nawaz Sharif Park have to face problems in parking their vehicles as the parking is occupied by the small merchants and handcart vendors, besides the vehicle show rooms. The citizens demanded administrator RTMA to clear these areas of encroachments.
