SHEIKHUPURA -  Assistant Food Controller Rana Khizar was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team in a Rs56 million corruption case here on Friday.

The NAB team, on a tip-off, caught the AFC in a raid. According to a source in the Food Department, the AFC had embezzled Rs56 million through wrongdoings and malpractices in various affairs.  According to NAB sources, an amount of Rs36 million has so far been recovered from the bank account of the accused.

The sources informed that the accused owns more than 66 acres of agriculture land in village Khanqah Dogran, which the NAB has confiscated. The NAB authorities will produce the accused in an accountability court on Saturday (today) while further investigation is underway.


Some unidentified persons attacked an officials team, led by a court bailiff Sadaqat and got released an accused after beating up the officials at Ferozewala court complex here on Friday.  The accused identified as Sarfraz was got released by the attackers. It has been learnt that the accused, wanted by the police, was roaming on the court premises when the team raided and tried to arrest him. The Ferozewala Police have started investigation
