LAHORE - Five matches were decided in the 16th Allama Iqbal Cup Girls Basketball Tournament that commenced at International Abdul Nasser Basketball Court Aram Bagh Karachi.
According to KBBA official, Assistant Commissioner Aram Bagh Mashal Naeem inaugurated the tournament in a dignified ceremony along with renowned sports patron Shahida Parveen Kayani. Welfare Association Chairman M Saleem Khamisani, Sijas Secretary Asghar Azeem, PYSF Information Secretary M Arshad, Ibad Ali Khan, Sher Khan, Usman Ghani and other prominent sports personalities.
In the first match, IOBM University defeated Beacon House North Nazimabad by 32-24 and in the second match, Aram Bagh Club defeated NED University B by 52-38. In the third match, Bahria College A defeated Beacon House School by 28-14, in the fourth match, Bahria College A defeated IOBM University by 27-20 and in the fifth match, Bahria College B defeated NED University B by 30-18. In the matches played, Laiba, Larib Noor, Ana Malik, Iza Bella, Raheem Fawad, Hafsa Jamil, Ayman Shahid, Musha Kamran, Samia Altaf and others showed excellent performances.
Addressing the opening ceremony, special guest Assistant Commissioner Mashal Naeem said: “KBBA has paid homage to the game and the players. The division and district administration are providing full patronage to the players regarding the promotion of sports. Pakistan is the safest country in the world in terms of sports.”
Shahida Parveen Kayani also paid homage to Pakistani thinker Allama Iqbal saying, “Our youth can do their best for the betterment and betterment of the society by following the ideas of the poet of the East. Efforts must be put to good use. He said that participation of women in sports is a good omen. Women can play a significant role in the betterment of the society.”
Tournament Organizer Ghulam Muhammad Khan thanked the special guest of the event and also disclosed that the guest of the concluding ceremony will be Secretary Sports Sindh Government Akhtar Inayat, who will distribute prizes among the players.
