CDA chief spells priorities

ISLAMABAD- Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Tariq Mehmood Khan Friday said that he would follow former Chairman CDA Kamran Lashari's vision with added vigor for further development of the federal capital. Tariq Mehmood Khan, while apprising media men of his future plans in an informal gathering, appreciated Lashari for his tremendous job done for the beatification and development of Islamabad and said he would follow his line to further facilitate its residents. Among his immediate priorities regarding welfare of the public, he said the deteriorated condition of sewerage; water shortage and difficulties in public transport would be focused at first place. He assured to give attention to the sectors of G and I series, Margalla Town and Chak Shahzad equal to that given to posh sectors. He said the Authority would now onward focus on projects aimed at public welfare like the construction of 6th and 11th avenues, expansion of Kashmir Highway, construction of more avenues on East-West dimension and linking the Margalla Avenue with the GT Road. He said work on construction of the aforesaid projects would be initiated within weeks. Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Tariq Mehmood Khan said he had directed the civic body's planning wing to look into the matter of provision of water to Islamabad from Ghazi Barotha Dam more seriously and try to address to the objections raised by various provinces. He said water shortage was the problem that deserved the most immediate attention. He further apprised the journalists that he had ordered for developing a dedicated park for women in the heart of the city, a facilitation center for journalists within the CDA Complex, a Cinepax in the G or I series and a round-the-clock functional operation room for the fire and rescue squad. He said Rescue 1122 Islamabad would be further strengthened, equipped and organized on modern lines.
