Karachi - - A division bench of Sindh High Court comprising Justice Muneeb Ahmed Khan & Justice Khwaja Naveed Ahmed Friday directed City District Government Karachi to provide alternate plots to displaced residents of Millat Colony Karachi. Petitioner Haji Naseem along with 79 others moved SHC against displacement from their houses. He made Secretary Sindh Katchi Abadies Department, City Nazim Karachi, Pakistan Railways, District Officers Enforcement & Revenue CDGK, Chief Executive Cantonment Board Clifton respondents. Advocate Shamshad Ali Qureshi submitted on behalf of petitioners that DO (Revenue) CDGK violating limits of cantonment board conducted demolition operation in Millat Colony Karachi on July 12, 2008 & razed many houses of residents. The respondent stated land of houses was acquired to build Race Course Road. Residents on same day approached Sindh High Court, which granted stay on razing of houses. Counsel recalled CDGK on July 15, 2008 told SHC that affectees will be provided alternate plot measuring 80 square yard each, but did not come up to its words. He prayed court to direct CDGK to financially compensate affectees besides providing alternate plots so that they could build their houses. EDO (Law) CDGK was present in court. SHC division bench after hearing arguments directed CDGK to provide alternate plots to affectees. It also set affectees at their liberty to re-settle back in Millat Colony, if proposed road was not built. Meanwhile, earlier, the parties have appeared before the court and submitted their versions regarding the case in the previous hearings, including, The KBCA, SSGC and KESC officials, MD KW&SB, Chief Controller of Buildings, EDO (law) of CDGK, Lyari town officials, petitioners Abdul Wahid, Hameedullah Khan Niazi, SP and TPO Lyari town, SHO PS Kalri, AIGP legal and the office bearers of Watch Environment Foundation. Furthermore, the same bench conducted hearing on the petition filed against the mother of provincial information minister Shazia Mari. The court was adjourned by the next month. The hearing was conducted on Friday, in which DDO Thatta and EDO Revenue of the same district appeared before the court, they submitted that the file of the land was misplaced, therefore they requested for further time to produce the file of the land.
